Bitcoin’s Rally Isn’t Just About Price Anymore

Bitcoin keeps smashing records—$118K, then $120K in sight—but this rally isn’t as simple as it looks. Sure, the price is up 105% in a year, and the whole crypto market is flirting with $3.7 trillion. But dig a little deeper, and things get messy.

On-chain data shows something odd: demand is outstripping supply in a way we haven’t seen since late 2020. Wallets holding under 100 BTC are scooping up around 19,300 coins every month. Meanwhile, miners are only producing 13,400 BTC in that same time. That’s a gap of 6,000 BTC, and someone’s filling it.

Who’s Buying All the Bitcoin?

If miners can’t keep up, where’s the rest coming from? Probably ETFs, big investors, or corporate treasuries. Exchange reserves are drying up, too. Fewer coins are sitting around waiting to be traded—more are getting locked away by long-term holders who aren’t budging.

Even the usual profit-takers, the short-term traders, aren’t selling much. Their average buy-in was around $100K, so they’re sitting on decent gains, but there’s no panic to cash out. The NUPL metric—which tracks unrealized profits—suggests we’re not in the “euphoria” zone yet. Last cycle, that phase lasted 228 days. This time? Just 30.

Corporations Are All In

Then there’s the institutional side. Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy now owns nearly 600,000 BTC, with paper gains around $28 billion. Only Satoshi and BlackRock hold more—but BlackRock’s stash is tied to its ETF. MicroStrategy? They own it outright.

Other companies are jumping in, too. Japan’s Metaplanet holds over 15,500 BTC, El Salvador’s sitting on 6,234, and even smaller firms like Semler Scientific are piling in. France’s Blockchain Group has 900 BTC and counting. It’s not just a price surge—it’s a shift in how big money views Bitcoin.

Altcoins Aren’t Left Out

Ethereum cracked $3K again. XRP shot up 25% in a week. Solana and Dogecoin are riding the wave. This isn’t just a Bitcoin story anymore—it’s the whole market waking up.

But here’s the thing: none of this feels frantic. No crazy FOMO, no desperation. Maybe that’s the strangest part of all.
